I love my district and my companion, they're all African, but one of them is white. He has an amazing story, he is twenty six years old and he used to go out partying and drinking alcohol all the time, as well as smoking since he was 16 for 6 years. and only two years ago he came back to the church and has studied the scriptures hardcore and knows more than the other three of us in the district.
They actually put my district with the hardest investigators(teachers). And they sent us to teach without teaching us anything except how to plan a lesson, and when we went in we needed to teach a different lesson but my companion didn't l know that lesson so i could not switch very well. So my whole district bombed the first lesson we taught. it was pretty bad, and in real life I'm pretty sure we would not have gotten in for a second lesson. I have taught five lessons in the mtc so far, and it has basically just been a review of everything that i learned from Andrew and Jacob, but its been way useful. Its been a little difficult to adjust to teaching with a companion.
Interesting thing, three hours into the Atlanta to south Africa flight my watch decided to permanently glow forever. So that is cool, it stopped after two days but then it was slow. so yeah, basically my watch broke the first day in the mtc which is pretty cool. And i cant replace it till i leave the mtc.
They feed us far too much food here, all i can think of is the saying "there are people starving in Africa." its definitely not happening in the mtc, i think they want to fatten the missionaries up before they send them out to the field. Despite that the food is way yummy and pretty familiar i have not had anything way weird yet. Though this morning there was something strange that idk how to explain, but most of the Africans didn't know what it was, the teachers said it was relish. They do however have weird sauces and a they call ketchup tomato sauce. They also call paper napkins, surviettes, which was weird when someone asked me where i got one.
I played soccer yesterday, as that's the game in Africa, i am not meant for running i felt like my heart was gonna pop against my ribs.
I can understand most of the people here, the some have really strong accents that are hard to understand. There are a couple that struggle with English but most are pretty good. When the do devotional prayers at night the president asks the person to say it in their native language, so we have heard quite a few prayers in other languages, Korean, Albanian, ect.
How is everyone? what are you upto?
Anyway, i am doing wonderfully and i am so excited for all of my friends that are going out on missions, I promise you, it will be amazing and you will love it.
I am also so excited to get out into the mission field and work with everyone and share the gospel with the wonderful people of Africa, anyway, that's all for now.
Ps. the picture included is my district, next to me is companion Elder shelembe, the other whit guy is Elder Van thiel berghuijs and the elder macapella.
Love Ririe!
